A potential spike in Lassa fever cases in the nation has been alerted to by the Federal Government via the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Dr. Jide Idris, the Director General of the NCDC, issued the warning. He noted that while the nation has seen a decrease in instances of various diseases, the annual Lassa fever season is quickly approaching.
We expect a possible increase in cases over the next few months due to Lassa fever’s seasonal nature.
In order to lessen the effects of the anticipated surge, we are therefore proactively stepping up our preparation activities,” he stated.
According to reports, corynebacterium diphtheriae is the source of the bacterial infection known as diphtheria, which primarily affects the nose and throat.
It is very contagious and can lead to severe problems if left untreated.
