FG to create 20,000 jobs annually through NJFP

The Federal Government has launched the second phase of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), aimed at creating at least 20,000 jobs each year for young Nigerian graduates.

Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the NJFP 2.0 Project Steering Committee on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He described the initiative as a key part of the administration’s efforts to tackle youth unemployment and boost economic productivity. According to him, the programme bridges the gap between “learning and earning” by offering graduates valuable work experience, training, and mentorship.

“This is a deliberate attempt to turn our demographic strength into productive economic power,” Shettima said, adding that inclusivity will remain central to the programme’s design. He explained that NJFP 2.0 will focus on key sectors shaping Nigeria’s future—agriculture, digital technology, renewable energy, manufacturing, and the creative industries.

Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, said the redesigned Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme will place 24,000 fellows across various institutions over the next 10 months. The initiative is supported by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aligning closely with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for job creation and youth empowerment.

EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Gautier Mignot, and UNDP Resident Representative, Elsie Attafuah, praised the government’s commitment, describing the NJFP as transformative in providing young Nigerians with opportunities to develop skills and secure meaningful employment.

Launched in 2022, the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme has already benefited over 14,000 graduates through paid fellowships that equip participants with valuable experience and long-term career prospects.
