The Federal Government has declared Friday, March 27, 2026, a work-free day for employees working within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention scheduled to hold at Eagle Square.
The directive was conveyed in a circular dated March 26, 2026, issued by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and signed by Dr. Abdul S. U. Garba, Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office.
According to the circular, the decision was necessitated by planned road closures around the Federal Secretariat Complex—Phases I, II, and III—to ensure smooth logistics and security during the APC national convention.
“All access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex will be closed from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, due to the use of Eagle Square for the APC national convention,” the circular stated.

As a result, all Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies, and offices located within the affected areas, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have been directed to allow their staff to work remotely on Friday.
The government also instructed Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies to notify their staff and ensure strict compliance with the directive.
The move is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance security coordination within the nation’s capital as political stakeholders gather for the ruling party’s convention.
