Epstein files: Elon Musk emails included in new US DOJ release

Newly released documents from the U.S. Department of Justice show that Elon Musk exchanged emails with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2012 and 2013. The messages include discussions about visiting Epstein’s private Caribbean island and meetings at Musk’s SpaceX office in California.

The DOJ released millions of pages, more than 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images on Friday. The release follows criticism that federal authorities had not fully complied with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The emails show Musk asking about attending the “wildest party” on Epstein’s island with his then-wife, Talulah Riley. Epstein offered to send a helicopter for transport. Musk also asked about the best time to visit during the holidays.

Musk has denied ever visiting the island. In 2019, he told Vanity Fair: “Epstein tried repeatedly to get me to visit his island. I refused.” He also wrote on X in 2025: “Epstein tried to get me to go to his island and I REFUSED.”

Some emails involved business. Epstein asked if SolarCity, where Musk was chairman, could electrify his New Mexico ranch or island. Musk forwarded the question to SolarCity co-founder Peter Rive, asking, “Are we in New Mexico?” Epstein also discussed bringing Tesla to Israel, but Musk declined due to production limits.

Epstein visited SpaceX in February 2013. Musk thanked him afterward in an email with a smiling emoji. The documents do not show what occurred during the visit.

The emails do not indicate that Musk ever went to Epstein’s island or engaged in illegal activity.

Musk has not commented on the newly released emails.
