EPL: Wolves hold Arsenal to a draw as title hopes continue to wane

Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes continued to fade on Wednesday night as Wolves fought back to earn a 2-2 draw at Molineux.

The Gunners threw away a two-goal lead against the league’s bottom club, leaving them under fresh pressure in the title race.

Bukayo Saka put Arsenal ahead early, before Piero Hincapie made it 2-0 in the second half.

But Wolves refused to go down quietly.

Hugo Bueno pulled one back with a superb strike, before late drama saw Tom Edozie’s effort deflect off Riccardo Calafiori into the net after a mix-up between David Raya and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted his side paid the price for a poor second-half display.

“It’s difficult to accept it in the second half how we didn’t perform at any level… and we paid the price,” Arteta told Sky Sports.

“You have to take the hit, because as well, we deserve it.”

Saka also admitted Arsenal have lost momentum in recent weeks.

“It’s very flat. I’m very disappointed with the result and especially how we played in the second half,” he said.

“It’s time for us to reflect… because we’ve lost that a bit right now.”

The result boosts Manchester City’s hopes, with Pep Guardiola’s side now closer in the race and still holding a game in hand.

For Wolves, the draw offered a rare bright moment in a difficult season, even as relegation still looks likely.
