Enugu nurse suspended after exposing poor hospital conditions in viral video

A nurse at Uwani General Hospital in Enugu State has been suspended indefinitely after drawing widespread public attention to the poor state of facilities at the hospital through a viral video.

The nurse had taken to social media to highlight what she described as the lack of basic amenities in the state-owned facility, including water supply, electricity, and oxygen. According to her, the situation made it extremely difficult for healthcare workers to manage critical cases safely.

The video quickly gained traction online, sparking outrage among Nigerians and prompting calls for urgent government intervention to improve conditions in public healthcare facilities.

However, days after the video went viral, the nurse was reportedly suspended and removed from her clinical duties by the hospital authorities.

In a follow-up video, she expressed disappointment over the decision, stating that her intention was not to embarrass the government but to draw attention to pressing challenges affecting both patients and medical staff.

“I’m the girl that posted about the hospital at Uwani about the light issues. Sadly, I was given an indefinite suspension and removed from my clinical duties,” she said.

She further questioned the action taken against her, asking whether speaking out about the poor conditions in the hospital was wrong.

“I didn’t post the video to bring the government down or paint them bad. I only did it to draw attention, which has now been addressed. I am so broken. I didn’t know that my goodness would punish me this way,” she added.
