English Premium League: Man Utd draw Wolves 1-1

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford by struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday, extending the bottom side’s frustrating run while leaving United sixth in the Premier League.

Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee, starting in place of usual starters, opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Finding a small pocket of space at the edge of the box, he struck a shot that deflected off Ladislav Krejci, giving United an early advantage. Benjamin Sesko almost doubled the lead before halftime but saw his header from a corner strike the post, reflecting a night of missed chances for the 22-year-old Slovenian.

Wolves, however, refused to back down. Krejci capitalised on a defensive error by Zirkzee, who inadvertently sent a header across the box, allowing the Czech forward to nod in the equaliser just before the break.

The second half saw continued intensity. Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa scrambled to deny a close-range header from teammate Yerson Mosquera, while United’s Senne Lammens produced a superb double save to keep both Krejci and Mosquera at bay.

In stoppage time, Patrick Dorgu appeared to snatch a winner for United, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review, leaving United on 30 points from 19 games. Wolves remain bottom with three points but ended an 11-game losing streak, marking their first positive result in nearly three months.

United coach Ruben Amorim expressed frustration at his side’s inefficiency. “Looking at the 90 minutes, we had our chances but the fluidity offensively wasn’t there. There is a lack of connections at the moment,” he told Sky Sports. “They tried, we didn’t play well. When you don’t play well with the ball, you struggle without it. We need to recover and go to the next one.”

Amorim also explained the decision to replace Zirkzee at halftime with Jack Fletcher. “We were struggling with their midfielders, and sometimes you can attack better with fewer strikers. We played with three strikers and sometimes that’s not the best way to attack well. This game is over; you cannot change the result, but you can move on to the next one.”

The draw leaves Manchester United still outside the top four, while Wolves continue to fight for survival in a season marked by consistent struggles.
