Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has returned to the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings continue in the case filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai is facing multiple charges brought by the commission, including allegations of conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
He was earlier arraigned before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge after spending more than a month in detention.
The court had fixed March 31, 2026, to hear pending applications, including his bail request.
However, proceedings were temporarily halted after the commission granted him compassionate release on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.
During the mourning period, El-Rufai received condolence messages from prominent political figures, including President Bola Tinubu.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and more than 10 governors, including Kaduna State governor Senator Uba Sani, attended the funeral activities.
Several political leaders also visited him to offer condolences, among them former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former ministers Abubakar Malami, Isa Pantami, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola.
On Tuesday, El-Rufai was again arraigned before the Kaduna State High Court alongside one Amadu Sule over fresh allegations, including abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
The ICPC is expected to present him before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where his bail application will be heard.
