The Federal Government has declared Thursday, 19th March and Friday, 20th March 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holidays on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement released on Tuesday by Dr Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the ministry.
In his message to Muslim faithful on the completion of Ramadan, the minister urged them to continue practising the values observed during the fasting period.
He encouraged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasised during the holy month.

Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for the country’s peace, unity and prosperity.
The minister advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to people in need within their communities.
He assured that the federal government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
NewsRegion had earlier reported that the Sultan of Sokoto, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, declared Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs also confirmed the Ramadan crescent sightings from three locations in Nigeria.
