Health experts and relationship counsellors have stressed that intimacy between married partners is not only vital for a healthy relationship but may also be most rewarding when it happens early in the morning.
According to sex therapist Dr Arlene Goldman, co-author of Secrets of Sexual Ecstasy, many men experience peak desire levels in the morning due to heightened testosterone after a night’s rest. “Many men are at their horniest first thing in the morning,” Goldman noted.
Medical research supports this, explaining that testosterone — the hormone responsible for sexual drive and energy in men — reaches its highest point at dawn. Combined with improved blood circulation during sleep, this often results in men waking up more physically prepared for intimacy.
Therapists say that morning intimacy can bring benefits to both partners. For men, it helps boost energy and focus for the day, while women may also find greater satisfaction as their partners are often more energised and last longer during the act. Beyond the physical, experts point out that early morning connection strengthens emotional bonds and can help reduce temptations outside the home.
To make the experience enjoyable, counsellors recommend simple, comfortable positions such as spooning, which allows closeness without demanding too much energy, especially for women. Relationship expert Trina Read, author of Till Sex Do Us Part, notes that such positions also make it easier to stimulate sensitive areas and foster deeper intimacy.

Special occasions, such as anniversaries, birthdays, or even days when couples want to mend after a disagreement, can also be marked with what some therapists describe as a “morning surprise,” which keeps the relationship lively and memorable.
