Osun State Government had previously warned against drinking from the Osun River, but followers of the Osun Deity disregarded their advice.
According to the state administration, artisan miners’ activities have contaminated the water, making it unsafe for human consumption.
Despite the warning, people were observed drinking from the Osun River on Friday, August 12, including worshippers, tourists, and other festival goers.
The devotees and guests from other states danced to traditional tunes while wearing white clothing and beaded headdresses.
