About 478 jerrycans filled with Premium Motor Spirit, also known as gasoline, were seized from smugglers by Nigerian Customs Service agents in the Kebbi State Command.
Nasiru Manga, the Command’s public relations officer, revealed this in a statement on Monday, August 15.
It read;
“Anti-smuggling officials of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, have continued to give petroleum smugglers a tough time as the Command’s anti-bunkering team seized 478 jerrycans of 25 litres each (11,950 litres) of PMS intended to be smuggled out of the country through Yauri waterway on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

“Based on a tip-off, the intelligence operatives had monitored the movement of loaded jerrycans of PMS to a spot near the waterway for some days before the deployment of the anti-bunkering squad, who struck and intercepted the 11,950 litres of PMS and evacuated the product to the command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.”
In response to the seizure, Comptroller Joseph Attah, the Customs Area Controller for the Kebbi Area Command, reiterated the command’s commitment to closely monitor all waterways under its control, particularly during this rainy season to prevent the smuggling of PMS, rice, used clothing, and other items that could jeopardize national security and the economy.
Attah also requested information from the border communities that may be used to stop smuggling operations in the state.
In the past two weeks, the Command had resumed its operation against smugglers, and during that time, it had made numerous seizures of items like PMS, used clothing, used cars, and foreign fertilizers, among other things.
