The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended the member representing Obubra I State Constituency, Dickson Agbor, over alleged violent conduct involving his wife.
The decision means the Cross River Assembly suspends Dickson Agbor from all legislative activities pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegation.
Reports indicate that the incident allegedly occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2028, at the Assembly quarters, where Agbor was accused of assaulting his wife following claims of infidelity.
The resolution to suspend the lawmaker was reached during plenary on Thursday, March 5, after a motion was moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo.
While presenting the motion, Etta condemned the alleged act, describing it as conduct unbecoming of a lawmaker and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of members of the legislative arm of government.
According to him, the Assembly must act decisively to protect its integrity and public image.
Following deliberations, the House adopted the motion and agreed that the Cross River Assembly suspends Dickson Agbor indefinitely while the matter is investigated.

The Assembly also approved the constitution of an ad hoc committee to investigate the incident and report its findings to the House for further legislative action.
After the resolution was passed, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms in compliance with the directive of the House.
Speaking on the development, the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, said the decision to suspend the lawmaker showed that the Assembly would not tolerate conduct capable of undermining the dignity of the legislature.
He stressed that the Cross River Assembly suspends Dickson Agbor as part of efforts to uphold discipline, protect the institution’s reputation, and ensure accountability among its members.
