Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has made history as the first footballer to reach billionaire status, driven by his record-breaking deal with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
After joining the Saudi Pro League in January 2023, the 40-year-old forward became the highest-paid player in football history, earning about $200 million annually, according to Saudi state media. His latest two-year contract extension, signed in June 2025 and reportedly worth more than $400 million in tax-free income, pushed his estimated net worth to $1.4 billion, Bloomberg reports.

Ronaldo’s fortune extends far beyond the pitch. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner enjoys major endorsement deals with brands such as Nike, Armani, and Castrol, contributing over $175 million to his wealth. He also owns properties across several countries and has invested in multiple businesses in Portugal and Spain.
With this achievement, he joins the ranks of billionaire athletes like Michael Jordan and Roger Federer, who built much of their wealth through endorsements and smart investments.
As retirement approaches, the Portuguese star has hinted at future ambitions beyond playing. In an interview with Canal 11, he revealed plans to own football clubs someday — a dream he says he’s determined to achieve.
