A man identified as Sunny Uma Okwara has reportedly been given 30 strokes of the cane by women in Ohafia, Abia State, over allegations of assaulting his aged parents.
Okwara, who was also accused of physically abusing his wife, was additionally fined N20,000 by the Nde Umuada, the traditional umbrella body of married women and daughters of the community.
According to a video circulating online, the incident occurred in Amaekpu, Ohafia, where Okwara was alleged to have repeatedly assaulted his parents over minor disagreements.

The elderly couple reportedly petitioned the Umuada to intervene and deliver judgment.
In the footage, Okwara was seen lying face down as members of the women’s group administered the caning, while warning him never to assault his parents or wife again, a directive he reportedly agreed to obey.
The Umuada described his alleged conduct as a sacrilege that could not be condoned in the community.
They stated that the N20,000 fine imposed on him would be used to carry out traditional cleansing rites at the village square, which they said had been desecrated by his actions.
