City beat Fulham 3-0, close gap to Arsenal to three points

Manchester City beat Fulham 3-0 on Wednesday night to cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to three points.

City, still boosted by their comeback win at Liverpool, were ruthless in the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring before Nico O’Reilly made it 2-0.

Erling Haaland then added the third to complete a dominant display before the break.

Despite closing the gap, City boss Pep Guardiola refused to get carried away with the title race.

“We were not nine points [adrift] before Anfield, we are not three points [adrift] before Brentford v Arsenal, after that we will see,” Guardiola said.

“I always say the focus is to grow, grow, grow.”

Guardiola also praised his players for maintaining their intensity after the emotional Anfield win.

“We talked a lot and I said ‘guys we have to do it again’ and we did it,” he said.

Haaland was substituted at half-time, with Guardiola revealing the striker was feeling discomfort.

“He said, ‘I don’t feel comfortable’ and 3-0 [ahead] with a lot of games and having Omar, common sense [to substitute him],” he said.

Fulham manager Marco Silva admitted his side were outplayed.

“Definitely City were better than us, simple as that,” Silva said.

“That was not good enough, and we gave some cheap goals.”

City’s win now puts pressure on Arsenal ahead of their trip to Brentford as the title race heats up.
