Chinese EV maker, Xpeng, to deliver flying cars in 2027

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng says it plans to deliver its flying cars in 2027, as it moves deeper into aviation-style transport and advanced robotics.

The company’s President, Brian Gu, told Reuters on Thursday that large-scale production of its flying vehicles will begin next year, with deliveries expected to follow in 2027. The firm has already received more than 7,000 orders, mostly from China, while it continues to seek approval from aviation regulators.

Gu said Xpeng is also expanding into robotics, with humanoid robots expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. They will first be used in simple customer-facing roles such as reception and sales.

On partnerships, Gu highlighted growing cooperation with Volkswagen, which recently began mass production of an electric vehicle jointly developed with Xpeng.

“There are a lot of areas that we can partner and really provide value to each other,” Gu said. He added that Xpeng is open to more collaborations. “We need to be nimble and willing to partner with different players in different regions.”

The company is also working on robotaxis. Testing will begin in Guangzhou later this year, while 2027 is expected to be a key year for global trials with partners. Xpeng plans to produce “hundreds to thousands” of robotaxis within the next 12 to 18 months.

Gu also said Xpeng continues to grow its global presence, operating in about 60 countries outside China. Overseas markets made up around 10% of sales volume and 15% of revenue last year.

He added that international markets could become Xpeng’s main revenue source over time. “In the next five to 10 years, more than 50% of the revenue should come from outside of China,” he said.
