Veteran entertainer and activist, Charly Boy, has blasted Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his recent comments suggesting that attacking bandits would be a “mistake” and that the government should instead consider negotiation and amnesty.
In a strongly worded post shared on his social media pages, Charly Boy questioned Gumi’s state of mind and accused him of repeatedly defending criminal groups responsible for killings, abductions, and widespread insecurity across the country.
The activist expressed shock that despite the pain Nigerians are facing, from grieving families to abandoned farmlands and deserted communities, the cleric continues to publicly advocate dialogue with armed groups.
Charly Boy criticised Gumi’s frequent statements such as “negotiate with them,” “don’t attack them,” “give them amnesty,” and “bandits are not terrorists,” saying they portray him as a spokesman or “spiritual adviser” for criminals rather than a religious leader.
He questioned why Gumi has never demanded justice or support for victims, alleging that the cleric always speaks in favour of bandits while ignoring the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.

According to him, no leader or cleric who consistently calls for dialogue with killers can claim innocence in the nation’s worsening insecurity. He argued that such positions would change instantly if the violence ever touched their own families.
Charly Boy urged Gumi to stop “creating confusion” and to use his influence to demand that bandits be crushed and victims protected. He added that if the cleric cannot support genuine solutions to insecurity, he should stay silent rather than embolden criminals with controversial statements.
