BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu declared fit to face trial by medical panel

A court-appointed medical panel of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has declared Nnamdi Kanu medically fit to stand trial. The panel stated that his health condition is not life-threatening.

The assessment was ordered by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja following conflicting reports from doctors representing the prosecution and defence. The findings, submitted on October 13 by the prosecution team led by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), were partly read in court on Thursday.

With no objections from either side, Justice Omotosho ruled that the trial would continue. Kanu was granted six consecutive days, starting October 23, to present and conclude his defence.

The court also approved a request by Kanu’s lead lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), to allow private consultations with his legal team outside the Department of State Services (DSS) premises. The judge directed that the meeting take place in the courtroom on October 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, with only Kanu and his lawyers present.

The trial is set to resume on October 23, with Nnamdi Kanu declared fit to continue participating fully in the proceedings.
