Two people have been killed and another injured after an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) opened fire on residents of Karmajiji (Karon Majigi) village in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The DSS operative, identified as Ajayi Abayomi, has reportedly gone into hiding following the incident on January 19, 2026. According to a police source, he has refused to honour an invitation to assist with the investigation.
Abayomi initially claimed that the shooting was unintentional, stating that he accidentally pulled the trigger of his pistol.
One of the victims, Musa Adamu, died a few hours after the incident. Another, Mallam Suleiman Salisu, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, January 28, at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.

The third victim, Abdullahi Ahmed, sustained a gunshot wound to the left hand and is currently fighting for his life at the same hospital.
“The three men were going about their lawful business when the officer shot them,” a police source said. “The bullet first hit Musa Adamu, then pierced the stomach of Mallam Suleiman Salisu, and finally struck Abdullahi Ahmed’s left hand.”
A relative of one of the deceased expressed grief over the tragedy, stating, “Innalillahi wa’inna’illahi raji’un. May Allah grant my brother peace and give us justice. He was shot without reason.”
Authorities are yet to make any official statement on steps to ensure accountability, and the DSS operative remains at large.
