The Confédération Africaine de Football has forfeited Senegal’s AFCON final win and officially named Morocco champions of the 2025 tournament.
CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the match, with a 3–0 result awarded to the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Appeal Board decided today that in application of Article 84… the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match… with the result… recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF),” the statement read.
The decision followed an appeal by Morocco’s football body, which challenged an earlier ruling by CAF’s Disciplinary Board.
“The appeal… is declared admissible in form and the appeal is upheld. The CAF Disciplinary Board decision is set aside,” CAF said.

The board also found that Senegal breached tournament rules.
“It is declared that the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF)… infringed Article 82… In application of Article 84… the Senegal team is declared to have forfeited the match.”
The controversy stems from the final, where Senegal players walked off the pitch in protest after a late VAR decision. CAF ruled that the action violated its regulations and warranted a forfeiture.
CAF also reviewed other incidents from the match, including a case involving Ismaël Saibari.
“The sanction imposed… is amended to a suspension of two (2) official CAF matches, of which one (1) match is suspended. The fine of USD 100,000… is set aside,” the statement said.
Morocco’s federation was also fined over issues involving ball boys and match interference, although some penalties were reduced.
“All other motions or prayers for relief are dismissed,” CAF added.
Morocco are now officially confirmed as AFCON 2025 champions following the decision.
