Borno: Suicide bomber kills five at military checkpoint

A suicide bomber struck a military checkpoint in Pulka town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday morning, killing five people, including soldiers.

According to security sources, the attacker is believed to be a member of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) and reportedly came from the Mandara Mountains. The bomber is said to have stayed near the checkpoint overnight before detonating the explosives.

A local resident described the attack as the first suicide bombing in Pulka in over a year and urged authorities to step up security.

“This incident proves that insurgents remain a serious threat. Immediate action is needed to safeguard lives,” the resident said.

The bombing has renewed fears about insurgent activity in Borno, recalling previous attacks in Gwoza and neighboring communities. Security officials have not yet issued a full statement on the incident.
