Boko Haram kills eight, three kidnapped in fresh Borno attack

Eight people were killed and three others were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Warabe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, on Thursday morning.

According to HumAngle, “All the members killed are part of the CJTF, except for one,” a local said.

The incident happened around 10:00 am while the CJTF members were out gathering firewood. Warabe has no permanent military presence, leaving the CJTF as the community’s main line of defence.

Locals said the attackers arrived on five motorcycles with about 20 fighters armed with machine guns, while others advanced on foot. The hunters tried to resist, but the militants overpowered them after their ammunition ran out.

After the killings, the attackers took the victims’ weapons and used their mobile phones to lure other hunters by pretending to request help. By the time reinforcements arrived, the group had already withdrawn with the stolen weapons.

Three hunters remain missing and are believed to have been taken. The nearest military base is in Pulka, about 7 kilometres from Warabe, while Gwoza town is roughly 15 kilometres away. Residents say the absence of soldiers in the community leaves them exposed during such attacks.
