Get ready for some heavenly drama in the skies, as Nigeria and other West African countries will experience a total lunar eclipse also known as Blood Moon, tonight, Sunday, September 7.
The rare event will kick off by 8:00 PM WAT and is expected to last about 83 minutes — enough time for you to settle in and enjoy the show.
During the eclipse, the Moon will take on a deep reddish glow, popularly called a Blood Moon, a sight guaranteed to wow stargazers across the region.
According to reports from the NTA, the eclipse will be visible in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Benin, Togo, Niger, Chad, and São Tomé & Príncipe. However, people in some westernmost areas might miss the early phases because the Moon will rise closer to totality.

Why the red colour?
Scientists say the reddish look happens when sunlight bends through Earth’s atmosphere and scatters, painting the Moon in fiery tones.
Is it safe?
Yes! Unlike a solar eclipse, you don’t need any special glasses — your bare eyes are safe.
For the clearest view, experts suggest heading to places with low light pollution like Yobe and Borno, where the skies are much clearer.
So if you’re in Nigeria tonight, don’t miss the chance to catch this natural wonder live in the sky.
