Two people were abducted as they transported a body from Abraka in Delta State to the hamlet of Isuikwuato in Abia State.
According to Vanguard, the victims were taken hostage around the Umunneochi/Ihube Okigwe axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. The robbers then intercepted the hearse carrying the corpse, abducted the passengers, and left the coffin in the car on the highway.
The deceased, according to a family member of the victims, was his uncle’s wife, and the abductors rushed the victims into the jungle, along with the deceased woman’s daughter, another relative, and the hearse driver.

The driver and the other man, he claimed, are still being held captive, but the woman’s daughter later managed to escape from her kidnappers thanks to fate, and they had alerted the Divisional Police Officer in Isuikwuato for intervention.
“We are in disarray. People bringing the corpse of my uncle’s wife today were kidnapped at the notorious Umunneochi-Ihube Okigwe axis.
They took away the victims into the bush. We have gone to pick the corpse and we have reported to the police. We want government to come to our rescue” he said
The state police command is yet to comment on this incident.
