Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has said he hopes the president will step aside for the 2027 election, arguing that Nigeria needs leadership with renewed drive and vision.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics monitored by DAILY POST, Baba-Ahmed noted that President Tinubu has not demonstrated the energy or commitment required to address the country’s pressing challenges.
“I’m sorry, but I have to say this again. When I left his administration, one of the things I told many people was, ‘I wish President Tinubu would not run again in 2027,’” Baba-Ahmed said.
He added that the Tinubu 2027 ambitions should not overshadow the need for effective governance, noting that the president has already achieved his initial goal of holding the office.

“First, he said his ambition was to be president, and he has now achieved that. He said ‘Emilokan,’ and he had his turn. But I don’t think he has run the country well,” Baba-Ahmed said.
According to him, the Tinubu of old, known for his hunger and intelligence, has not shown the same commitment to Tinubu 2027 ambitions in a way that would inspire confidence in his leadership for another term.
