Awujale stool: KWAM1 sues Ogun gov, Awujale council, others

Popular Fuji musician and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as KWAM1, has taken legal action against the Ogun State Government and other parties over the ongoing process to select the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

In the suit filed at the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, KWAM1 sues Ogun gov, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and five other respondents, seeking an interim injunction to stop any further steps toward the selection and installation of a new Awujale pending the determination of the substantive case.

Those listed in the suit include the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat; the Secretary of the local government, Oke Adebanjo; the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Dr Sunny Kuku; and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi.

Court documents dated December 16, 2025, show that the Fuji star is asking the court to restrain all the respondents from taking any action on the Awujale stool until the matter is fully heard and decided. The motion was brought under relevant provisions of the Ogun State High Court Civil Procedure Rules and the 1999 Constitution.

The legal action follows earlier controversy after the musician publicly declared interest in the vacant Awujale stool, citing his lineage to the Jadiara Royal House within the larger Fusengbuwa Ruling House. However, the ruling house rejected his claim, insisting that he does not belong to the royal lineage qualified to produce the next monarch.

Despite the rejection, KWAM1 sues Ogun gov and others, arguing that allowing the process to continue would prejudice his case and undermine the integrity of the selection process. He urged the court to act swiftly to preserve the subject matter of the dispute.

As of the time of filing this report, the court has not fixed a date for the hearing. Meanwhile, the legal battle has added fresh tension to the already sensitive succession process for the Awujale stool, as KWAM1 sues Ogun gov in what could become a landmark chieftaincy dispute in Ogun State
