Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully thwarted a terrorist attack in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, rescuing 31 civilians abducted during an Easter service.
The swift response followed a distress call reporting the abduction of worshippers at an ECWA Church in the community. According to a statement from Army Headquarters, troops immediately mobilised to the scene.
“With the support and guidance of members of the Ariko community, they pursued the fleeing terrorists and engaged them in a fierce firefight, overwhelming them with superior firepower,” the statement said.

The operation forced the terrorists to abandon 31 hostages, including one injured individual receiving medical attention.
Sadly, the remains of five victims already killed by the attackers were recovered. Blood trails along escape routes indicate that the terrorists sustained significant casualties.
Troops have intensified operations to track the fleeing elements, rescue any remaining captives, and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. Additional forces have been deployed to reinforce security and prevent further threats.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity, working alongside other security agencies and local stakeholders.
Major General Abubakar Wase, General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander of Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, is on the ground overseeing operations and conducting assessments.
The Army urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security efforts and sustain peace in the area.
