Jos-based Plateau State High Court Justice Christy Dabup has cleared former state governor Jonah Jang of the N6.3 billion in corruption allegations that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, had brought against him.
Jang, who served as governor from 2007 to 2015, and Yusuf Pam, a former cashier in the Plateau State Government’s Office of the Secretary, were both charged with corruption for the first time in March 2018. They were first charged with 17 counts of suspected embezzlement of N6.3 billion belonging to the state government before Justice Daniel Longji. Justice Longji retired in 2019 after adjudicating the case for roughly two years, postponing further proceedings.

The lawsuit was given a fresh start in 2020 after being given to Justice Dabup by the state’s top judge. Since then, the case has gone on until the final hearing on July 14, 2022, at which the defence and prosecution attorneys, each lead by Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), adopted their final written addresses.
Yusuf Pam, a former cashier in the Plateau state government’s secretary’s office, was charged alongside the former governor when Justice Dabup rendered his decision in the case today.
