Akon has been accused by his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Nicole, of giving her fake jewellery during their relationship.
Stephanie Nicole made the allegation on Instagram. She claimed many of the jewellery items she received from the singer were not real.
She also warned that other people who got jewellery from Akon should have it checked for authenticity.
In her post, she suggested the issue may not be limited to her alone. She hinted that other recipients, including celebrities, could also be involved.
A separate account from a close source offered another view. The source claimed Akon knew Stephanie liked jewellery and often asked for new pieces.
The source suggested this may have influenced the gifts she received.
The claims have also brought back an old story involving rapper French Montana.

In 2021, he said Akon gave him a Hublot watch that later turned out to be fake after a jeweler checked it.
“[The jeweler] looked at me and said, ‘What you mean? Akon did not give you this, my guy,’” French Montana said.
He later said he confronted Akon about it. “He was like, ‘What? Let me call the jeweler that gave me that shit,’” he recalled.
French Montana said there was no issue between them. “Shout out to Akon. That’s my guy,” he added.
Akon previously denied knowingly giving out fake items.
He said he did not know the watch was fake at the time.
“I get the watch I put one on… I said, ‘I got something for you bro,’” he said.
He added: “He was happy, I was happy. We lit, we lit.”
Akon said he spent about $5,000 on each watch and believed they were real.
“I was like, ‘What do you mean fake? The shit tick, don’t it?’” he said.
Akon has not yet responded to Stephanie Nicole’s latest claims.
