…gives reason
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fintiri described the move as a “strategic decision taken in the best interest of Adamawa State and its people.”
He said the decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of the state’s long-term stability, development and prosperity.
The governor recalled the mandates he received in the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections, noting that his administration remains mindful of the moral responsibility placed on it by the electorate.

Fintiri highlighted achievements recorded under his leadership, including improvements in security, construction of roads, schools, hospitals, markets and housing projects, as well as investments in education, water and electricity.
He also cited youth and women empowerment programmes and the creation of new chiefdoms, emirates and districts to promote inclusion and development.
“My administration has consistently been guided by consultation, legality and impact in its decision-making process. Recent political developments at the national level necessitated my decisive and strategic realignment,” he said.
According to him, aligning with the APC would enable Adamawa State to better leverage President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the areas of social welfare, infrastructure, housing and inclusive economic development.
Fintiri stressed that his exit from the PDP was not driven by personal ambition or political convenience, but by the need to reposition the state within mainstream national politics for greater opportunities.
He disclosed that the defection includes the full political structure of his administration across the 226 wards and 21 local government areas of the state, covering both elected and appointed officials.
The governor urged his supporters to register massively with the APC and assured residents that his administration would continue to deliver on its development agenda, regardless of political platform.
He called on citizens to sustain their trust in his leadership, describing the defection as a bold step towards securing a more prosperous Adamawa State.
