A woman identified as Esther has reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.
A resident of the area, who gave his name as Dauda, said Esther left home on Wednesday to visit her boyfriend. He explained that her boyfriend later called her elder brother at night to inform him of her death.
Dauda added that the boyfriend said he had bought her food, after which she began vomiting. He said the boyfriend took her to Kubwa General Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.
Dauda said both Esther’s and her boyfriend’s phone numbers are now switched off.
He said, “Esther left home in the afternoon on January 21, 2026, informing her sister that she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei. She, however, did not return home.

“Later that night, at about on the same day, his brother received an anonymous phone call from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend. The caller restated that Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating the meal, she began vomiting, prompting him to rush her to Kubwa General Hospital.
“He said Esther died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Since then her boyfriend’s number has been switched off, same with Esther’s phone number. He didn’t also give his name or address.”
When contacted on Friday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said an investigation is ongoing.
“We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” she said.
