A former chairman of the Nigeria Football Association, Ibrahim Galadima, has died at the age of 78.
Galadima passed away on Saturday evening at a hospital in Kano, according to his younger brother, Abba Galadima, who confirmed the development.
He said funeral prayers for the late football administrator will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fagge Juma’at Mosque in the Fagge area of Kano.
The late Galadima, who also held the traditional title of Galadiman Fagge, was widely regarded as a key figure in Nigerian football administration and community leadership.
He served as chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation between 2002 and 2006, a period during which he contributed to the organisation and growth of the sport in the country.
Galadima also played a major role in sports development at the state level, serving as chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, where he supported both grassroots and elite sports initiatives.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Kano Pillars FC mourned his passing, describing him as a foundational figure in the club’s history.
The club extended condolences to his family, the Kano State Government, and the wider Nigerian football community, praying for strength for those he left behind.
Galadima was one of the founding fathers of Kano Pillars FC, helping to lay the structure that has seen the club grow into one of the dominant sides in Nigerian football.
Born on February 15, 1948, he is remembered for his leadership, influence, and long-standing contribution to the development of football in Nigeria.
