The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a male suspect, Eric Nwombu, over alleged impersonation and unlawful possession of JAMB examination materials.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the arrest was carried out by operatives under the Inspector-General of Police’s Safe School Initiative.
Items recovered from the suspect include eight JAMB examination slips and an exercise book containing names and examination numbers of students, which he reportedly failed to properly account for.
Ikenga said the arrest followed a report that the suspect had been collecting 2026 JAMB examination slips from candidates who visited a cyber café in Atani to check their examination centres.

According to the statement, the suspect allegedly claimed to be a JAMB coordinator in the area when questioned, raising suspicion among staff of the centre, who subsequently alerted the police.
“The suspect attempted to flee on sighting the operatives but was apprehended,” the statement added.
The police said preliminary investigations have commenced, while the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further inquiry.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the integrity of public examinations and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
