Two arrested as police rescue abducted baby in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has rescued a three-day-old baby who was abducted and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said the incident was reported on March 29 by a 19-year-old resident of Ungwan Bako, Orange Market, Mararaba in Karu LGA, identified as Aisha Basa.

According to him, Basa said her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle rider, had travelled to Lagos about five months ago for business.

He explained that the young mother reported that at about 11:50 p.m. on March 28, while she was asleep with her three-day-old baby in her residence on the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, two unidentified men broke into the house, threatened her and took the baby to an unknown destination.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, directed detectives from the Mararaba ‘A’ Division to visit the scene and commence a full-scale investigation.

Nansel said acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested two suspects in the early hours of April 3, 2026. He identified them as Furera Abdulrahman of Rugan Juli and Sadiya Abdullahi of Anguwan Bako, Orange Market.

The police spokesperson said the abducted baby boy was found in the suspects’ possession and successfully rescued. He added that the suspects confessed during interrogation and also named an accomplice who is currently at large.

According to him, the baby was immediately taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where he was examined by a doctor and certified to be in good health.

He said the child has since been discharged and reunited with his parents.

Nansel added that the case remains under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further discreet investigation after preliminary inquiries are concluded.
