A video circulating on social media has sparked debate after a woman publicly prayed for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the distribution of Ramadan palliatives in Oshodi-Isolo, Lagos.
The 27-second clip, recorded during a welfare outreach reportedly organised by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), shows the woman holding the items she received while addressing people around her.
In the video, campaign-style banners carrying the government’s “Renewed Hope” slogan can be seen in the background, while the APC chairman in the area, Kehinde Adeola Oloyede, appears nearby as the woman speaks.
Speaking in Yoruba, the woman expressed gratitude for the food items and prayed for the president’s political future, while also condemning those opposing his second-term ambition.
“We have received it, Tinubu. All the people saying you will not second term will die untimely death,” she said in the clip.
The distribution formed part of Ramadan support programmes often organised for residents during the fasting period, coming at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with rising living costs and inflation above 30 percent.
The video has since drawn mixed reactions online, with several users debating the link between welfare aid and political support.
Reacting on X, user @dooolapo wrote:
“This is why philosophers like Plato believed not everyone deserves to be given a right to vote. Voting rights should be restricted to those who have proven themselves to be capable of making objective decisions.”
Another user, @Peace_Makarr, commented:
“We know that a lot of our people are defeated mentally. This is why we must open their eyes whether they like it or not.”
User @joyousfav also questioned the enthusiasm over the aid, writing:
“Is this not madness?? How many days will the bag of rice last for??”
Similarly, @TECHMAN089 said:
“For something that will finish within a month. This is effect of Poverty.”
Another commenter, @King_edf, added:
“People grow to love their chains. The government know how to play the game. They know that once you give the poor food, they forget everything else and glorify you.”
Commenting sarcastically, @AnokwuruDaniel wrote:
“Hope these items will last for the next 4 years?”
User @flourish_empire also criticised the situation, saying:
“You see the problem of Nigerians? Look at when she’s saying because of common food that won’t last her for 3 months. Our leaders knows us very well that’s why they ain’t taking us serious.”
Another user, @Dika_scorch, said:
“That is what we get when poverty has become a weapon in the hands of the supposed leaders.”
The viral clip has continued to fuel conversations online about poverty, welfare distributions and political loyalty in Nigeria.
