In a landmark development for Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals is set to supply between 60 and 65 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, effectively surpassing the country’s current petrol demand.
The announcement was made by the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, in Lagos, confirming that structured offtake agreements with selected marketers are in place to ensure nationwide distribution and eliminate fuel shortages. This achievement underscores the Dangote Refinery supply 65 million litres petrol daily as a major step toward fuel self-sufficiency for Nigeria.
Nigeria’s average daily petrol consumption is estimated between 50 and 60 million litres. With the refinery’s output exceeding domestic requirements, the country now has the capacity not only to meet local needs but also to export up to 20 million litres daily.
Dangote highlighted that “any surplus will be exported,” signaling a new era where the Dangote Refinery supply 65 million litres petrol daily will reduce reliance on imports and conserve foreign exchange.

The structured distribution framework, supported by major marketers including NNPC Retail, MRS Oil, TotalEnergies Marketing, and others, is designed to prevent bottlenecks and curb speculative practices.
Analysts say the achievement positions the nation to strengthen its external reserves, stabilize the naira, and improve the overall trade balance.
The operational success of the plant, which exceeded expectations by reaching 661,000 barrels per day, further confirms the Dangote Refinery supply 65 million litres petrol daily as a transformative development for Nigeria’s energy security and industrial growth.
