Businesswoman and former bank chairperson, Ibukun Awosika, has revealed that many prominent Nigerians are deeply indebted despite maintaining lavish lifestyles.
Speaking during a recent preaching engagement, Awosika highlighted the hidden realities behind the wealth of high-profile individuals.
“I was chairman of a very popular bank, and you would be shocked if I told you that many wealthy Nigerians, very big names, are living in debt while maintaining a lavish public lifestyle,” Awosika said.
Her remarks underscore the truth that appearances often mask serious financial challenges and demonstrate why many big names are living in debt.

Drawing from her personal experience, Awosika explained that she earned more than her husband for over a decade while he built his career in the public sector, but they used the income gap as a tool for mutual growth.
She urged couples not to let money create conflict at home, emphasizing that financial discipline is crucial for stability. The business leader added that her observation that many big names are living in debt should serve as a lesson on the importance of responsible financial management.
Awosika concluded by stressing that money is a tool to build together, not a source of tension. She reminded Nigerians that public image can be misleading, and the reality is that many big names are living in debt, even when it seems otherwise.
