A 200-level student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has filed a N15 million lawsuit against a fellow student over an alleged false rape accusation. The suit follows a public retraction by the accuser, identified as Adeife.
In a statement issued by the legal team of David Ojuko Adefesobi, the lawyers said Adeife made the allegation around February 17, 2026, and circulated his phone number on social media platforms, including WhatsApp.
They described the claim as false, malicious, and reckless, stating that it subjected David to public ridicule and harmed his reputation among family members, peers, and professional associates.
The legal team also cited consequences such as the loss of business contracts, online harassment, threats, and emotional distress. According to them, screenshots and reposts of the allegation are still being shared, worsening the impact.
Although Adeife later issued a video apology, the lawyers maintain that the harm caused by the initial publication cannot be undone by a retraction.

The letter states that if Adeife does not comply within 14 days, David will proceed with legal action, seeking aggravated damages, injunctive relief, and other remedies available under Nigerian law.
