The Zamfara State Government has allocated N1 billion in its 2026 approved budget for the construction of cemeteries across 14 local government areas of the state, despite continued bandit attacks and rising insecurity.
The provision, listed under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has drawn attention as communities across Zamfara continue to suffer repeated violent assaults linked to banditry.
The Zamfara N1bn cemetery budget comes at a time when residents are calling for stronger security measures to curb the ongoing killings.
Reports of fresh attacks continue to emerge from different parts of the state. On Wednesday evening, suspected bandits reportedly ambushed residents of Kyaram community, killing at least five people, while several others were declared missing after the incident.
Similarly, on January 29, 2025, at least four residents of Gwargwaba village in the Nahuce District of Bungudu Local Government Area were killed when armed men invaded the community.
The recurring violence has heightened concerns over the state’s priorities, particularly in relation to the Zamfara N1bn cemetery budget.
While the government has not publicly addressed the criticism surrounding the allocation, the budgetary decision has continued to spark debate among residents and observers, many of whom argue that resources should be channeled toward improving security and protecting lives rather than expanding burial infrastructure amid ongoing attacks.
The discussion around the Zamfara N1bn cemetery budget reflects growing frustration over the persistent insecurity in the state.
