X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is currently inaccessible for tens of thousands of users.
According to Downdetector, which tracks live service outages, more than 70,000 users reported problems accessing X as of 10 a.m. ET on Jan. 15. About 56% of the issues were with the mobile app. Users across the U.S., including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston, said they could not sign in or received a “connection timed out” message.
The outage began shortly before 10 a.m. ET and continued past 10:30 a.m., affecting both the app and the website.
This is the second outage for X in one week. On Jan. 13, the platform went down for over 24,000 users. Issues began around 9:20 a.m. ET and were resolved by 10 a.m. ET.

The cause of the outage is not clear. In recent months, X has experienced problems linked to the internet infrastructure platform Cloudflare. In November and December, Cloudflare went down twice, affecting X and other platforms like LinkedIn, Fortnite, and DoorDash.
