Hollywood director, Rob Reiner, and wife, Michele found dead in LA home

Legendary filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, have been found dead in their Los Angeles home, in what authorities are investigating as a possible homicide.

Police and firefighters responded to the couple’s Brentwood residence on Sunday afternoon after a call for medical assistance. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made, and authorities are not currently seeking any suspects. The Los Angeles coroner will determine the cause of death.

A family spokesperson said: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss and ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Rob Reiner, son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, rose to fame playing Meathead on All in the Family, winning two Emmy Awards. He went on to direct acclaimed films including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men, and co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment. He recently revisited his cult classic This Is Spinal Tap with a sequel released earlier this year.

Michele Reiner, an actress, photographer, and producer, ran the Reiner Light photography agency. The couple married in 1989 and had three children together.

Tributes poured in following the news. California Governor Gavin Newsom called Reiner a “big-hearted genius behind so many of the classic stories we love.” Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle said: “Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired.” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass described their deaths as “a devastating loss for our city and country,” praising their advocacy for children and the LGBTQ+ community.
