Harmattan: Tunji-Ojo blasts fire service officer over half-filled water truck

Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has sharply reprimanded a Federal Fire Service officer after discovering that one of the agency’s fire trucks had only a half-filled water tank, a lapse he described as dangerous and unacceptable during the harmattan season.

Visibly angered during the inspection, Tunji-Ojo stressed that such negligence puts lives and property at greater risk at a time when fire outbreaks are more frequent and potentially devastating.

He warned that firefighters must maintain full readiness, remain fully equipped, and position themselves strategically near high-risk areas where emergencies can occur without warning.

The minister rejected what he termed excuses for the team’s lack of preparedness, noting that every firefighter is funded by taxpayers and is duty-bound to deliver efficient service.

According to him, public safety requires alertness and immediate response capacity, especially in a season known for its high fire incidence. He reiterated that firefighters,  like all public servants, are not paid to be docile, but to protect Nigerians with diligence, discipline, and professionalism.
