After Kebbi, Niger abductions, Katsina govt shuts public schools

The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public schools following fresh security concerns and rising violence in some communities.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, confirmed the development on Friday while briefing journalists in Katsina. He said the decision was taken to protect students and teachers as security agencies begin implementing a new safety strategy across schools. He added that most students only have examinations left to complete.

Jibia explained that the shutdown is temporary and will remain in place until a full security assessment is carried out to identify vulnerable locations.

The directive follows the recent abductions of secondary school students in Kebbi and Niger States, incidents that have heightened fears among parents and authorities across the North-West.

The government assured residents that schools will reopen once the security review is concluded and adequate protection is in place.
