The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, has announced a two-week suspension of academic activities following the tragic death of a 200-level student, Miss Afolayan Oluwadarasimi Roseline, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
The incident occurred on Friday morning, November 7, 2025, along the Iseyin–Saki Road in Oyo State.
Reports indicate that Darasimi, a student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, was on her way to refill her gas cylinder when she was hit from behind by a commercial bus driver, who immediately fled the scene.
The incident sparked outrage among students, some of whom protested and set the vehicle ablaze after realizing that the driver had escaped.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the Registrar of LAUTECH, Dr. Olayinka Balogun, expressed the university’s deep sorrow over the student’s death and announced a temporary suspension of campus activities.
“The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin,” the statement read.
“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.”

Balogun added that, in recognition of the emotional impact on students and staff, the university had approved a two-week break, effective immediately.
“Consequently, all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to proceed on a two-week break. Academic activities will resume on Monday, November 24, 2025,” he said.
He further advised students to stay safe, support one another, and honour the memory of their departed colleague.
The tragic incident has once again drawn attention to the increasing dangers of reckless driving on Nigerian roads and the urgent need for better road safety enforcement around academic communities.
