VIDEO: Nigerian prophet predict Opay’s shutdown, says it’s ritual platform

A Nigerian prophet has stirred massive reactions online following a controversial prophecy he made about the popular financial technology company, OPay.

In a viral clip making rounds on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the prophet declared that OPay would shut down between December 2025 and January 2026.

Speaking to his congregation, the cleric maintained that he was confident about his revelation, warning Nigerians to withdraw their funds before it was too late. According to him, users of the digital payment app might wake up one day to discover their money has disappeared.

“I know what I’m saying. People can doubt me, but what I say always comes to pass. OPay will shut down between December and January,” he stated.

The prophet went further to claim that OPay operates as a “money ritual platform,” urging Nigerians to be cautious about the services they use for their financial transactions.

His statement quickly gained traction on social media, sparking intense debate among users.

One user, @NzejiUche, questioned the legitimacy of OPay’s physical presence across the country, writing:

“Let’s be honest here. Who’s the owner of OPay? How many branches does it have in the 36 states? When a transaction fails, which OPay bank hall can you visit to complain?.

Another user, @caleb_okike, condemned the cleric’s message, saying:

“If you hear about the number of lives many Nigerian pastors have destroyed with their false prophecies… Many of them deserve to be incarcerated.”

Also reacting, @hadizafrench called on OPay to respond swiftly to the prophecy to avoid panic withdrawals:

“Nigerians take religious messages seriously. If OPay doesn’t want panic withdrawals, they should get their legal team ready.”

Others dismissed the prophecy as another attempt to stir fear. User @mulla069 wrote:

“Another problem Nigeria has apart from bad governance is fake pastors.”

Meanwhile, @charliebeato jokingly added:

“This kind prophecy deserves a Central Bank reply.”

Founded by Chinese billionaire Zhou Yahui, OPay is owned by Opera Software, its parent company. Zhou has played a significant role in the platform’s expansion across Nigeria’s fintech space.

The prophecy continues to generate heated discussions online, with many calling for regulatory or legal action over such controversial religious claims.
