A 27-year-old Ekiti man bags life sentence after an Ado Ekiti High Court found him guilty of armed robbery and conspiracy. The convict, Alex Peter, was sentenced to life imprisonment for armed robbery and nine years for conspiracy.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Adekunle Adeleye said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. He noted that Peter’s voluntary confession, the testimony of witnesses, and the physical evidence presented in court all confirmed his active participation in the robbery.
According to the prosecution counsel, Ola Akinwumi, the incident took place on May 16, 2022, along NTA Road in Ado Ekiti. Peter and another suspect, who is still at large, attacked a commercial motorcyclist, Augustine Steve, and robbed him of ₦15,000 and a red Bajaj motorcycle with registration number AMK 569 UJ while armed with a cutlass and an axe.

Steve told the court that he recognized Peter’s face under a streetlight during the attack and later sighted him at a restaurant three days after the incident. He immediately alerted people nearby, leading to the convict’s arrest. A subsequent police search led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle at Peter’s residence.
In his ruling, Justice Adeleye said the evidence left no room for doubt that the offender bagged life sentence for a serious and deliberate act of violence. He added that the verdict should serve as a warning to others involved in armed robbery and related crimes.
