OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Atlas, an AI browser designed to integrate artificial intelligence directly into everyday web use, introducing new competition for Google in the browser market.
Announced on Tuesday, ChatGPT Atlas is built around OpenAI’s flagship chatbot and combines search, productivity, and real-time assistance. The browser lets users open a ChatGPT sidebar to summarize web pages, compare products, or analyze information while browsing.
In its “agent mode,” available to paid subscribers, the AI browser can independently perform online tasks such as researching destinations or making purchases without user intervention. During a live demo, developers showed how ChatGPT could find a recipe and automatically order the ingredients through Instacart.

OpenAI confirmed that the browser is now available globally on macOS, with Windows, iOS, and Android versions to follow soon.
The launch of ChatGPT Atlas signals OpenAI’s growing push beyond chat applications into core internet functions, challenging Google’s long-held dominance in search and browsing.
Analysts say the new AI browser could reshape how people interact with the web, offering a conversational experience that may appeal to users seeking a faster and more intuitive alternative to traditional search.
