Renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away at the age of 80.
His family confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, announcing that he died on October 6, 2025. They described his passing as a “glorious transition” from a life of devoted service to eternal rest.
Ukpai, widely regarded as a spiritual general and one of Nigeria’s founding fathers of faith, spent more than six decades preaching the gospel, teaching the Word, and demonstrating what he called God’s power through prophetic ministry.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity.
“His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” the family said.

Over the years, Rev. Ukpai became known for his fiery evangelistic campaigns, transformative teachings, and dedication to empowering both church leaders and ordinary believers.
Outside the pulpit, he was celebrated as a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to many who saw him as a guide in both faith and life.
While the family said they mourn his physical absence, they added that they rejoice because he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.” They also assured that details of his burial would be announced soon.
Rev. Ukpai’s ministry, which spanned over sixty years, leaves behind a deep spiritual and social impact through churches, educational initiatives, and humanitarian works that continue to influence lives across the world.
His family described his life as a reflection of the scripture, “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
