The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a young couple and three others for allegedly conducting an illegal marriage ceremony without the consent of their parents.
Deputy Commander General, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, explaining that the ceremony was held privately with a ₦10,000 dowry—below the amount recognised under Islamic law.
He said the union breached Islamic and legal marital procedures, prompting an investigation to determine the motive behind the act and those who facilitated it.

Aminuddeen urged parents to pay closer attention to their children’s social lives and offer proper guidance in marriage-related decisions.
The incident follows the Kano government’s recent directive for Hisbah to commence preparations for a state-sponsored mass wedding involving about 2,000 couples, aimed at promoting lawful unions and reducing immorality among youths.
